Maria Sharapova To Play Next Week's US Open
08.25.2007 NEW YORK-- Maria Sharapova has been seeded two at next week's US Open and was given a great draw where five of the toughest
players are at the top of the draw. With Maria at the bottom, that means she could only play players such as
Venus Williams and
Serena Williams in the final. In round one most likely Tuesday Maria takes on Roberta Vinci of Italy.
Maria has never played her before. Vinci
should not give Maria too much trouble since she is ranked 49 and has never won a match at the US Open before.
Maria Sharapova Injured, Pulls Out Of LA Semifinals
08.17.2007 LOS ANGELES-- Top seed Maria Sharapova pulled out before her Los Angeles Classic semi-final against fellow Russian Nadia Petrova because of a
strain in her lower left leg on Saturday. "When I started to warm-up it got worse and worse," Sharapova said. "I could not run for more than two or three balls." World
number two Sharapova was treated by a doctor and trainer for two hours, but still could not make it on court. "I had it all. Anti-inflammatories, deep tissue massage,
an ice bath, I even had acupuncture in my ear," said Sharapova, who had a similar injury in 2006. "I'm not going to sit here and say this or that is the cause
because I don't know." Sharapova is not scheduled to play again until she defends her U.S Open title in New York from Aug 27.
LOS ANGELES Singles Draw
Maria Sharapova Dumps Dementieva, Petrova Next
08.11.2007 LOS ANGELES-- Maria Sharapova was a bit more consistent on her serve and that was the difference in her quarterfinal match
Friday night where she defeated Elena Dementieva 6-3, 6-4. Maria struck some wild serves, but it was Elena who doublefaulted on set point
in set one and again to lose her serve in set two. Tonight in the semifinals, Maria faces yet another Russian, Nadia Petrova, whom she leads
head to head 5-1. Maria won their last meeting 7-5, 6-2 last year in the Linz final. If Maria can keep her newly shortened service swing working
and keep Petrova on the run, she should move into her second final in as many weeks on the WTA Tour. Note: Maria has withdrawn from next
week's tour stop in Toronto.
Our pick: Maria in three sets.
Maria Sharapova Wins, Plays Elena Dementieva Tonight
08.10.2007 LOS ANGELES-- At the East West Bank Classic in Los Angeles, top seeded Maria Sharapova of Russia struggled before beating
Michaella Krajicek of the Netherlands 7-6(7-4), 6-7(3-7), 6-4 in two hours and fourty-seven minutes to advance to
Friday's quarterfinals. Sharapova tonight takes on fellow Russian and 9th seeded Elena Dementieva. Head to head Sharapova leads Dementieva
6-2. In their last meeting Sharapova won 6-1, 6-4 at the 2006 WTA Tour Championships. Sharapova most likely will overpower Elena.
Our pick: Maria in three sets. Full Story
Maria Sharapova Wins, Plays Third Round Today
08.09.2007 LOS ANGELES-- Maria Sharapova Wednesday night in the second round defeated Eleni Daniilidou 7-6 (5), 3-1 when Eleni retired
because of breathing problems. In round three today Maria takes on Michaella Krajicek of the Netherlands. Head to head Maria leads Michaella
2-0, last winning 7-6(7-5), 6-4 in Indian Wells this spring. If Maria can serve well enough, she should outhit Michaella from the ground.
Our pick: Maria in straight sets.
Maria Sharapova In Action Tonight In Los Angeles
08.08.2007 LOS ANGELES-- Maria Sharapova tonight in the second round in Los Angeles meets Eleni Daniilidou of Greece. Head to head Maria
leads 4-0, last winning in 2006 Linz round of 16 7-5, 6-1. Eleni is a hard hitter, but I think Maria is better at that type of play.
Our pick: Maria in straight sets.

Maria Sharapova Wins, Awaits Possibly Venus Williams
08.03.2007 SAN DIEGO-- Maria Sharapova Friday in the quarterfinals defeated Sania Mirza 6-2, 6-1. Saturday Maria plays the winner of tonight's
match between Wimbeldon champion Venus Williams and Anna Chakvetadze. We have to think Maria
is hoping Anna will win considering Maria's bad loss to Venus at Wimbledon. You can see Venus vs Anna live on the Tennis Channel at 9pm CST USA.
Maria Sharapova Wins, Into San Diego Quarterfinals
08.02.2007 SAN DIEGO-- Maria Sharapova last night defeated Tamarine Tanasugarn in the second round 6-1, 6-3 and today defeated 12th seeded
Tatiana Golovon 6-0, 6-3 to move into a Friday quarterfinal versus Sania Mirza of India. Head to head Maria leads Mirza 1-0. Maria won their last meeting
at the 2005 US Open 6-2, 6-1. But Sania is playing better where as Maria is not so this could be a tough match. If Maria plays here best she should win.
The bad news is Maria could then face Wimbeldon champion Venus Williams Saturday in the semifinals.
Maria Sharapova Plays Tanasugarn Tonight In San Diego
08.01.2007 SAN DIEGO-- Maria Sharapova tonight at San Diego meets Tamarine Tanasugarn in the second round after getting a first round bye. Head
to head Maria leads Tanasugarn 1-0, last winning in Tokyo 2004 6-2, 6-3. This should be a straight set win for Maria. However Tatiana Golovin of
France may be a very difficult match in the next round should Maria win tonight.
