Maria Sharapova Upset Friday In Istanbul Semifinals
05.26.2007 ISTANBUL-- Maria Sharapova Friday lost in the Istanbul Cup semifinals to Aravane Rezai of France 6-2, 6-4. Rezai, ranked 59 in the WTA Tour
world rankings had also upset Venus Williams in the second round Wednesday on her way towards Saturday's final. So this result was not a major surprise
considering that clay is most likely Maria's worst surface and Rezai's best surface. Maria can hope to quickly regroup for her match in Paris Sunday or Monday.
"I am glad that I came here and I played a few matches before Roland Garros, though it is unfortunate to lose in the semifinals," Sharapova said. "I have been
working very hard in the last weeks."
